Saklani KentText Box: Saklani (Robin) Kent graduated from UC Davis in June 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with an emphasis in Plant Biology.  She spent a year in the Americorps working for the Marin Conservation Corps and the Marin Municipal Water District as a Restoration Stewardship Specialist on Mt Tamalpais.  During that time, she worked to remove invasive species from sensitive habitats, including French Broom (Genista monspessulana), Fuller’s Teasel (Dipsacus fullonum), Ice Plant (Carpobrotus edulis), European Beach Grass (Ammophila arenaria) and Yellow Star Thistle (Centaurea solstitialis) and restore native, including Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia), Western Sword Fern (Polystichum munitum) and Nassella pulchra (Purple Needlegrass).  She also worked with hundreds of volunteers all over the Bay Area at this time doing restoration work, giving educational talks at schools and helped out at community events.  Her mentor at the Marin Municipal Water District then asked her to return as Vegetation Mapping Crew Leader.  She led a crew of six members on Mt Tamalpais, surveying over thirty plant communities at hundreds of sites for a total of over two hundred plots on twenty thousand acres.  The surveys located twenty new rare plant populations, as well as generated information for an aerial vegetation map of the mountain.  After finishing her second term on Mt Tamalpais, Saklani joined the two-year MESM program at the Bren School of Science and Management at UC Santa Barbara.
Saklani is excited to be a part of the Biology and Management of Non-Native Species in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area project with Elliot, Emi, Emily and Sarah!!
