  MESM Students in the Bren School
Gina Gerritzen

Gina Gerritzen is specializing in pollution prevention and remediation at Bren and ultimately seeks a career regulating hazardous wastes. Before starting her Masters degree, Gina worked 3.5 years as a lithography manufacturing engineer at Advanced Micro Devices and then 1.5 years as a research assistant at Nanosolar. It was during this time she became exposed to the burgeoning nanotechnology industry and developed concern for its potential risks. She graduated from the University of Washington in 1999 with a B.S. in chemical engineering.

    Maria Mircheva

Maria Mircheva is interested in improving environmental practices of companies. She believes some new technologies can reduce our impact on the environment and we need adequate policies to support their development. In the past year, she has taken classes such as Industrial Ecology and Alternative Energy. Before she started her Master’s in Environmental Science and Management, Maria worked for 4 years as a financial and operational auditor and consultant at Price Waterhouse Coopers and Sun Microsystems.

    Li-Chin Huang

Li-Chin Huang graduated from National Taiwan University in 2003 with a B.S in Mechanical Engineering and minored in Earth System Science Program. She is specializing in Corporate Environmental Management at the Bren School. She thinks it is important for corporations to develop more environmental friendly manufacturing processes. In her first year, she has taken courses such as Environmental Risk and Industrial Ecology. Her goal is to help industries doing better environmental management.

    Keith Killpack

Keith Killpack is specializing in pollution prevention and remediation at Bren.  Upon graduation, Keith plans to work in the field of hazardous waste remediation.  Prior to returning to school, he worked as a research assistant at the biotechnology company Exelixis for 3 years and at the nanotechnology start-up Cambrios Technologies for 0.5 years.  He earned his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at UCSB in 2000.

    Ph.D Candidate in Sociology
    Joe Conti

Joseph Conti is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara.  His dissertation is titled, “Power through Process: Determinants of Dispute Resolution Outcomes at the World Trade Organization.”  This project evaluates the dispute settlement process of the World Trade Organization through event history analyses of dispute cases and interviews with WTO officials, jurists, member nation trade delegations, and private attorneys with experience litigating at the WTO.  His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the University of California Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation, the James D. Kline Fund for International Studies, and the Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy.
