2003-2004 BREN SCHOOL GROUP PROJECT

EVALUATION OF LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS RECEIVING TERMINALS FOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Objectives

The objective of the project will be to analyze three possible terminal types for liquefied natural gas supply in Southern California.  The three terminal types will be land-based, converted offshore platform and floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).  The analysis will address the following key issues for each terminal type:

  • Environmental Effects
  • Socioeconomic Effects
  • Community Safety
These issues will be compared in a final matrix which will reveal strengths and weaknesses of each terminal type.  Our goal is to have a document that can aid government agencies, industry and communities as a decision making tool when dealing with liquefied natural gas.
