Denitrification and the Stoichiometry of Nutrient Regeneration in Waquoit Bay, Massachusetts: Supplementary Figures

Michael G. LaMontagne, Valeria Astorga, Anne E. Giblin and Ivan Valiela.

The figure legends below are linked to figures discussed in our paper that appeared in Estuaries (25: 272-281).

Supplementary Figure 1. Comparison of benthic DIC release and O2 uptake for a variety of estuarine and coastal systems.  Annual averages or integrated rates are shown.  Symbols refer to literature sources (below).  Line represents a model I regression.

Supplementary Figure 2. Comparison of benthic DON flux to DIN efflux for a variety of estuarine, shelf and coastal systems.  Annual integrated rates or averages are presented for temperate systems. Symbols refer to literature sources of data (below). Top) DON flux / DIN flux versus DIN release.  Negative values indicate benthic uptake. The power equation which yielded the plot is given. Bottom) DON flux as a fraction of total dissolved nitrogen (TDN) flux versus DIN efflux.  TDN was calculated as DON plus DIN (nutrient flux only, N2 and N2O flux are not included).
