Welcome
This site is intended to serve as a resource for managers of electric utilities and consultants advising electric utilities who are interested in pursuing initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. If you are a manager of an electric utility, please take a moment to complete our survey. Information that you provide will be used to analyze strategies for reducing greenhouse gases (GHG's) and evaluate their effectiveness.
In the United States, electricity generation emits more GHG’s than any other economic sector (Figure 1). Therefore, any attempt to reduce or offset GHG emissions must meaningfully engage electric utilities in the process. In the absence of regulations at the federal level, many U.S. companies are proactively instituting voluntary initiatives to reduce their net contribution of greenhouse gases. These strategies span a broad spectrum including: providing energy saving tips to customers; increasing the efficiency of energy conversion; substituting renewable energy for fossil energy; and participating in reforestation programs among others.
